patrik ervell spring 2011 stomping all over those financial times.

Patrik Ervell S/S 2011 show
The Patrik Ervell boys stomped all over those Financial Times for his Spring 2011 presentation. These lads were dressed in their cropped cotton suiting and brogues complete with splash dyeing, stitch pleating, horsehair braiding, and LA color tones.
Leave the tees and sneakers at home, the Patrik Ervell boy will party with the downtown kids in a fully buttoned club collar oxford, khakis, and knapsack. The days of dressing down are over - but don’t look too stuffy. Staying casual while dressing up does this minimalist collection well.

Last night I saw The Charlatans live. You know, the early ’90s rock group making their attempt for a second resurgence. This time the look was tired East-London-does-Bushwick-Digital-Hipster. Overall they overcompensated the performance with volume, I guess the louder the better, and now my ears are killing me. Maybe it was their tribute to a golden era long gone, but someone please tell the poor old souls that GRUNGE ROCK IS OVER, in fact, it was never good in the first place!
To be truthfully honest with you, the real show was the opening act, Sherlock’s Daughter. This was actually the real reason I ventured to the Williamsburg Music Hall last night, on invitation to witness the musings of Tanya Horo and her boys. Refreshing, exciting, and endearing, they definitely top my list. “Song For Old People” is their intoxicating ephemeral tribal rock chant, and I cannot get enough of it.

I attended the press screening of David Michôd’s Animal Kingdom a couple months back and I still cannot get this film out of my head. Now on the eve of it’s state-side release (Aug. 13) I’ve decided to write how natural cool it is.
The quiet horror of the film is introduced as ‘J’ Cody (played by newbie James Frecheville) dispassionately watches a game of Jeopardy next to his dead, heroin overdosed mother. After moving in with his estranged uncles and grandmother, Fenchville’s emotionless acting is surprisingly fitting for his role as an unaffected youth surrounded by the savagery, bloodthirstiness, and ferocity of his new family.
Fed by a deceptive and protective matriarch, Jacki Weaver, and led by the barbaric and disturbed patriarch, Ben Mendelsohn, our minds wrestle as to identify the source of this family’s malevolence.
Overall: GO SEE IT. TWO COOLS UP
